ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) comprises of fertility treatments in which eggs /ova from the female partner are fused with sperm from the male partner and cultured in an IVF laboratory and the resultant embryo is transfer back to either the genetic mother or in certain conditions to a surrogate mother. The leading type of ART is IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). IVF consist of collecting a mother’s eggs, inseminating eggs in the lab and then culturing the embryos till Blastocyst stage and the resultant embryos to the mother’s uterus through the cervix. ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic sperm injection). In ICSI, single sperm is inserted directly to the woman’s ova and the rest of the process is similar to IVF
The start of an ART cycle is when a woman begins taking medications to stimulate the production of eggs and ends with embryo transfer, a typical ART/IVF cycle takes 15 days from day2 of menstrual cycle
