A study shows that children born through IVF have a better quality of life as adults

According to a study published in the journal, Fertility and Sterility in 2014, the children born via assisted reproductive technology (ART), such as IVF will get a healthy life in their adulthood.

Compared to the non-IVF children, babies born through IVF an get more advantages in quality of life in adulthood. IVF children are physically and psychologically efficient with good social relationships, less mental distress and a great financial situation.

Women these days are worried about getting pregnant and have many doubts regarding fertility treatments such as IVF. This is because the treatment involves hormonal stimulation, fertilization outside the human body, and culturing the embryo outside for two days before transferring it to the uterus.

Researchers from the Australian state of Victoria have interviewed 656 mothers, who’d used IVF, about the health and well-being of their child in the first 18 years of life. It revealed that babies born through IVF had a good quality of life than the non-IVF babies in terms of body mass index and other physical and psychological factors.

Do IVF babies have health risks?

Millions of parents were blessed with babies with the advancement of IVF. Some people worry that babies born under assisted reproductive techniques are not as healthy as naturally conceived babies. Medical professionals are striving hard to put an end to these false beliefs.

Questionnaire and World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief assessment (WHOQoL-BREF) has been conducted on young adults aged 18 to 28 years (T1) and 22 to 35 years (T2) which included 193 ART-conceived and 86 NC-conceived individuals.

The researchers found that ART conceived babies are highly efficient and active with good scores on social relationships and environmental WHOQoL-BREF domains at T2.
