Gestational surrogacy is a process, where the intended mother is not able to carry a baby to term due to hysterectomy, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, fibroid, congenital absence of uterus because of RKHS syndrome. the egg and sperm from the intended parents are used to create an embryo by in vitro fertilization which is the transferred into and carried by the surrogate mother. The child born is genetically related to the parents while the surrogate mother has no genetic relation. The surrogate mother carries the child or children through gestation and this is called Gestational Surrogacy.

If the intended mother is unable to produce egg sometimes an egg donor or oocyte donor may be required. In this scenario, the surrogate mother carries the embryo developed from a donor egg that has been fertilized by sperm from the genetic father. This kind of treatment is called Gestational Surrogacy with Egg Donation.

In certain cases where the intended father is unable to produce sperm because of testicular failure resulting from Cancer treatment or conditions that may be genetically transferable to the offspring the embryo that is developed from the donor sperm and genetic mother egg is carried by the surrogate mother. This process is called Gestational Surrogacy with Sperm Donation.

If the intended parents are unable to produce sperm, egg or embryo, the surrogate mother can technically carry a donated embryo. The child born is genetically not related to the genetic parents or the surrogate mother. This type of Surrogacy with embryo donation is not allowed for foreign couples.

Even though the idea of vanity surrogacy is a common feature in the news media and anti-surrogacy arguments, we at the Kiran Infertility Centre are proud to state that we don’t take up cases where the Gestational Surrogacy is sought only for vanity purposes. We are always eager and happy to help people who genuinely have medical issues, and don’t consider cases of surrogacy, where it’s just a question of outward appearances. We also don’t take up traditional surrogacy cases, as it is not allowed as per the Indian guidelines, as this involves artificially inseminating a surrogate mother with the intended father’s sperm through IUI, IVF or home insemination. The child born with this method is genetically related to the father and the surrogate mother.
