Surrogacy Bill to be introduced in Parliament winter sessions

Government is likely to introduce the Surrogacy and IVF (Regulation) bill in the coming winter session of Parliament, a senior official from ministry of Health said.

At a national conference which held to take up the recommendations for a rights based legal framework on In Vitro fertilization and surrogacy in India, he revealed that the bill has been cleared after having several rounds of meetings with group of ministers and will be introduced to the union cabinet soon.

“After it is cleared by the cabinet, we hope the bill will be introduced in the coming winter session of parliament,” he said. Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan also attended presentations on the bill the Spokesperson mentioned.

The bill also gives a framework for foreigners to use Surrogate mothers from India. It also concentrated on the issues like number of pregnancies allowed for a surrogate and the age of the surrogate and the compensation paid to the surrogate.
