Apple and Facebook paying for oocyte freezing and fertility treatments for the female employees

Silicon Valley giants Apple and Facebook are trying to increase the female ratio in the work environment by paying the female employees for Egg freezing ( oocyte freezing ).

Facebook started this on Jan 1 where as other giant Apple planning to begin it in the earlier month on 2015 according to NBC News.

The total procedure costs up to $10,000 and $500 per year for storing the eggs. Facebook offers up to $20,000 in favor of a female employee to store the eggs and Apple will cover this benefit starting January 2015.

As women gets older the chances of successful pregnancy would be less when compared with the previous years. So those who are busy in building their carrer and want to have babies after they got settled well, it would be helpful as the costs covered by the employer.

Critics say this is just one more way to put the workplace before having a family.

But there is no official comment from any of the representatives from both Apple and Facebook.

However the same procedure in India will cost about $200. Hence it is anticipated that Facebook and Apple may outsource this work to Indian fertility clinics. We at KIC already have a sperm and egg banking facility.
